Nokia today announced fresh investments of approximately USD 75 million towards its manufacturing plant in Sriperumbudur, India, for the year 2008. This investment is geared towards enhancing the capacity of the manufacturing plant to cater to the burgeoning need of the Indian and other emerging markets. The manufacturing plant currently employs approximately 6000 people.

ETA Engineering Pvt Ltd, one of the country's leading electro-mechanical contracting companies, will shortly commission its new integrated facility at Sriperumbudur.

"Built at an outlay of Rs 30 crore ($7.5 million), the new plant will manufacture industrial and commercial air conditioning equipments like air handling units, package chillers, package air conditioners, ductable split air conditioners, scroll chillers and others," S.K. Also present for the inauguration was the Chairman & CEO of Hyundai Motor Company, Mong-Koo Chung, who had flown in from Korea specially for the inauguration.

Computer manufacturer Dell will now produce laptops from its Sriperumbudur facility, near Chennai. To aid this, the facility currently capable of producing four lakh units a year, will be expanded to produce about 10 lakh units over the next 12 months - Dell India.

High Valley Insulation, a part of Delhi based Ajith Industries Pvt Ltd, said it is setting up a plant at the Hi-tech SEZ in Sriperumbudur to manufacture die-cut foams, films, paper and adhesive tapes. Sources say that the facility will come up over 1.5 acres at an initial investment of Rs 10 crore. The company plans to cater to companies like Nokia, Motorola, Dell Computers and other companies in the area by supplying these products. Commercial production may start by early 2009.

ETA Star Property Developers Ltd is planning to come up with a mega integrated township on a sprawling 400 acres of land at Sriperumbudur near Chennai with an estimated cost of nearly Rs 7, 500 crore, said Mr. P H M Syed Ismail, Managing Director, ETA Star Property. Of the projected 3 crore sq ft built-up area, nearly 70% would be towards residential and the rest will be for commercial and other purposes. It will house IT SEZ, a medical college with a hospital, hotel, multiplexes, commercial space, school and all basic facilities.
