Sriperumbudur, located in proximity to Chennai, is a town in the Kanchipuram district of Tamilnadu, India. Once a sleepy Panchayat town, it is today fast emerging as the Industrial nerve centre of Tamil Nadu.

The town also has its own historical significance. It is the birth place of Sri Ramanuja, one of the most prominent Hindu Vaishnava saints. There is now a temple of Lord Vishnu at his birthplace. Vellakotai Murugan temple is just about 9 km away from Sriperumbudur, where the tallest Murugan statue in India can be found.

Finally please note that the Sriperumbudur airport matter has been shelved by the Government. It will never happen unless the Chennai airport is closed down and this will also not happen.

Target Date 2015 As Present Airport’s Expansion Stalls

The city is likely to get a spanking new airport by 2015, nine years before the earlier D-day. The greenfield project will be taken up on 4,822 acres of land near Sriperumbudur, northwest of Chennai, at an estimated cost of Rs 3,500 crore. The dates have been advanced in light of certain trouble — largely relating to land acquisition — that cropped up in the Rs 2,350-crore modernisation and expansion project of Kamaraj International Airport at Meenambakkam.

Rajiv remembered at Sriperumbudur memorial

On Tuesday, in preparation for Rajiv Gandhi's death anniversary the next day, workers were busy installing a glass and steel structure around a portrait, etched in marble, of the politician. Many were weeding the lawn and cleaning the pathway. The state unit of the Congress party would organise a blood donation camp here and feed the poor during the day, says TNCC president M Krishnasswamy.

Request for providing basic facilities

Hi All,

I am Simhadri from Chennai. I own a piece of land in Aranery village (Behing St. Gobain Glass Factory). There is no proper to reach this place. And futher, there is no bus (Metro bus or MTC) operated by Metropolitan Transport Corporation. Distance from Sriperumbudur Bus Depot to this place is about 10 KM, further for no medical assistance we need to goto SPR town.

My request is to whom (Government body / authority) should I post a request on behalf of the people surviving out there
for extending the minimum basic infrastructure.
